Book Arts is an introductory course involving the creation of handbound multi-signature books that incorporate both Eastern and Western approaches to design and format. The aesthetic quality of the artist book resides in its unique structure, visual narrative, continuum of tradition and diversity of materials.
Prerequisite(s): ARST 206; and WRIT 105 or HONP 100; students in the SEEDS program can take ENGL 110, ENGL 111, ENGL 114, HUMN 151, HUMN 160, HUMN 288, PHIL 106, or SPAN 242 in place of WRIT 105. Exploration of papermaking as both an independent art form, and in terms of its relationship to printmaking and book arts. 2D and 3D techniques will be covered in both a historical and contemporary context, with the focus being the creation of new and innovative work.
Prerequisite(s): ARPM 300. Continuation of ARPM 300. May be repeated for a maximum of nine credits.
